Why Save for Retirement

Usually when I’m asked this question, I’ll respond with a few questions of my own. “Will Social Security be enough, when you retire?” “Will retail prices remain the same?” and “How long will you live in retirement?

While everyone must find their own answer to those questions, it really comes down to finding their big, “What” – that is, What they are dreaming of, what they are planning to do and what they are saving for in retirement.

One way to find the answer to your big “What” is to spend some time jotting down ideas about things you want to do in retirement:

  • How do you want to spend your time in retirement?
  • Where do you want to live?
  • Who do you want to spend your time with in retirement?
  • What type of house do you want to have?

Once you’ve identified your big “What,” you’ll be able to develop a realistic retirement vision. And then every 3 to 5 years, we recommend revisiting your vision to check to see if you’re still on track.
